See a selection of items on loan from the archives of the Congregation of Holy Cross highlighting Brother Columba, who was known as the Miracle Man of Notre Dame and the Divine Healer.

World Premiere Concert: “Quarter Days”
South Bend’s premier music makers, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, have joined forces to commission this new piece for string quartet and chamber orchestra, featuring the acclaimed Euclid Quartet, in celebration of Fischoff’s 50th and the South Bend Symphony’s 90th anniversaries. Anna Clyne, one of the most in-demand living classical composers, has crafted this stunning piece capturing the intimacy of the string quartet and the grandeur of the symphony. Purchase tickets.

TSC Fund It Forward Video Challenge
Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit videos for the Science Coalition’s Fund It Forward Student Video Challenge with the chance to win cash prizes. In 60 to 90 seconds, your challenge is to explain why science matters and remind Congress that now is the time to invest in science. The deadline to submit is Friday, Oct. 20. Hesburgh Library Fall Break Building Hours
During fall break (Oct. 15 through 21), Hesburgh Library will be open:
· Sunday: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
· Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
· Saturday: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Regular hours will resume on Sunday, Oct. 22. Find all branch and service desk hours at library.nd.edu/hours.
Enrollment Division Offices Closed — Oct. 18
The Enrollment Division offices will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, for an all-hands meeting. The offices include Vice President for Undergraduate Enrollment, Financial Aid, Pre-College Programs, Shared Services, Strategies and Communications, Student Accounts, Student Employment, TRIO Programs and Undergraduate Admissions.

At Notre Dame, we find the sacred everywhere. Whether in ordinary or extraordinary moments, these encounters stick with us long after our time on campus and beckon us to consider where we see the sacred at work in our lives. Have a story to share? Submit yours and you may be invited to participate in Sacred Stories of Notre Dame, an annual Advent reflection series from the Alumni Association. Submissions due by Friday, Oct. 20.
Notre Dame Vision Mentor Application
Notre Dame Vision is now accepting applications from undergraduates of all years. Share your story, witness to your faith and mentor high school students from across the country and the world during summer 2024. Form incredible bonds with fellow undergraduates as you facilitate small groups, dynamic music and immersive program activities. No previous experience is required.

Learn to Skate
Learn to Skate classes are offered for all ages! There is a special class called Ice Explorers for 2- to 3-year old skaters (see separate flyer for more information). Each week includes 30 minutes of instruction with optional practice time. Skaters are assigned class times. The Learn to Skate USA curriculum is followed, so the classes build off each session. $78 class fee / $18 skate rental.

Free Shred (Your Home Files at Work) Event
Do you have old bank statements, checks or other personal documents? The University Archives and the University’s shred provider, Shred-it, are offering a free, secure and confidential document shredding event for Notre Dame faculty, staff, students and retirees. The Shred-it truck accepts paper only — remove any binders, binder clips, etc., before the event (staples and paper clips are acceptable). This event will be held rain or shine. The Columbus Murals on the second floor of the Main Building will be uncovered from Monday, Oct. 23, through 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, to allow instructors and their students to engage with and discuss the murals. · Build a Better Lit Review: Introduction to VOSviewer
Most researchers understand the overwhelming feeling of conducting a thorough literature review. VOSviewer alleviates the pain of conducting a lit review by letting researchers visualize the relationships between their sources. In this workshop, you’ll learn what VOSviewer is, how it works and how you can use it in your own work.

· How to Make a Book
This hands-on workshop will demonstrate how to bind books using any one of three different techniques: using a machine to do coil binding, using a machine to do adhesive binding or making a book with a slot and tab method and absolutely no tools, only paper. Learn how printing and making books is a good thing, even in an era of all things digital.

· Using the Distant Reader
This workshop is useful to anyone who needs to read large volumes of materials and will help you take control of your content. The Distant Reader, a locally written system, can take large volumes of URLs or files, create a corpus, convert it into plain text, complete natural language processing and output sets of reports.

· How to Write in a Book
This workshop illustrates and demonstrates a technique for writing in books for the purposes of “active reading.” Through an active reading process — writing in books — one can review, retain and comprehend so much more even with a single pass over a text.

· Creating a Bootstrap Website with Bootstrapr.io
Bootstrap is a popular framework for rapidly building seamless, mobile-friendly websites. In this workshop, the participants will create a Bootstrap website from the ground up. With the Bootstrapr.io tool, we’ll learn to easily and rapidly prototype well-crafted, professional-looking websites with ready-made interface elements from the Bootstrap libraries.

Police Training Exercise
An upcoming first responder training exercise near St. Michael's Laundry is part of Notre Dame’s ongoing efforts to train and evaluate the University’s ability to respond to emergencies. Signage will be present indicating a training exercise is taking place. The public is asked to avoid the area.

The Master of Science in Historic Preservation students in the School of Architecture are undertaking a design project on the Studebaker Administration Building. A visit to the Studebaker National Museum is an opportunity to learn more about the company, its history and that of South Bend, forming a detailed historical background for the undertaking of the design project/intervention.
