Exhibitions
Spring Exhibit—Tragedies of War: Images of WWII in Print Visual Culture
Commemorating the end of World War II (1939–45), the exhibit showcases more than 40 works on paper—including posters, maps, propaganda ephemera, illustrated books, photographs, and firsthand accounts—and explores diverse themes from Nazi racial ideology, the Holocaust, children in war, resistance, liberation, and memories of war.
Mondays through Fridays through Thursday, July 31; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Rare Books & Special Collections (Room 102), Hesburgh Library
Spotlight Exhibit—Ars praedicandi: The Materiality of the Medieval Sermon
See a medieval sermon composed from a variety of preaching aids and sourcebooks: Bibles, summae, florilegia, and other systematized anthologies. These formats offer insight into pastoral care in the medieval world. The exhibit emphasizes a few items from the Hesburgh Library’s medieval manuscript collection created for and used by actual medieval preachers.
Mondays through Fridays through Aug. 1; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Rare Books & Special Collections (Room 102), Hesburgh Library
Spotlight Exhibit—Bibliomania: The Library of Sir Thomas Phillipps
Sir Thomas Phillipps amassed the largest manuscript collection of his time, including more than 60,000 manuscripts and 20,000 printed works. His will—later contested—mandated his collection never be dispersed, nor any Catholic be permitted to view it. This exhibit features five manuscripts that have made their way to the University of Notre Dame.
Mondays through Fridays through Aug. 29; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Rare Books & Special Collections (Room 102), Hesburgh Library
