Safety, Parking, and Traffic
Part of Holy Cross Drive to Close for Resurfacing
In alignment with the University’s commitment to improving campus infrastructure, a road resurfacing project is scheduled for Holy Cross Drive, on the south side of campus. The project will ensure a smoother and safer experience for the campus community.
Starting Monday, June 8, Holy Cross Drive will be closed south of Dorr Road, near Burke Golf Course, to Main Gate. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and use East Gate for campus access. There will still be vehicle access to Duncan Hall and the construction sites of Coyle and Grojean Halls, as well as South Dining Hall, via northern routes. Review a close-up aerial view of the map.
Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrian access during the extent of construction. Construction is expected to continue through July.
Partial Closure of St. Joseph Drive Starting June 8
A sidewalk widening project is scheduled for the west side of St. Joseph Drive, next to the Stepan Chemistry Hall. Starting Monday, June 8, the southbound lane of St. Joseph Drive will be closed between Cavanaugh Drive and O’Shaughnessy Hall. During this time, vehicular traffic will be restricted to one-way travel, southbound only, using the northbound lane. Drivers on the south side of the road closure will need to detour and exit to Leahy Drive via Moose Krause Circle.
Pedestrian traffic along the west side of St. Joseph Drive will be impacted; pedestrians will need to cross to the east side of the road and use the existing sidewalk to travel north or south. Construction is expected to be completed and the lane reopened on Monday, July 6.
National Safety Month
June is National Safety Month. Help build a proactive safety culture by reporting workplace hazards and near-miss close calls to Risk Management.
National Safety Month: Road Safety
Week 2: Keep campus roads safe. Yield to pedestrians, give cyclists 3 feet of space, and watch for large vehicle blind spots.
Updates to the PEV (Personal Electric Vehicle) Policy
Effective July 1, the University is amending its policy to prohibit the operation of all e-bikes on the main campus. To that end, please take note of the policy updates.

The annual bike round-up continues. All bikes and scooters without a brown tag are subject to removal. Unregistered rides are held for 30 days. Contact NDPD with questions.
Hesburgh Library South Staircase Closed for Renovation
The railings for the main staircase on the south side of the first floor are being replaced. The staircase connecting the lower level, first floor, and second floor are closed off with temporary walls. On-site signage directs traffic flows and alternate routes. Project completion is targeted for mid-August, before the fall semester begins.
