In the dense forests of the Eastern Himalayas, moths are whispering something to us. In the dark of night, two curious observers shine a light on this secret universe. Together, they are on an expedition to decode these nocturnal creatures in a remote ecological hot spot on the border of India and Bhutan. $7 adults, $6 faculty/staff, $5 seniors, $4 students.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922)
A cornerstone of the horror film genre, F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror is resurrected in an HD edition mastered from the acclaimed 35mm restoration by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung. A live, hard rock film score is scheduled for performance by Kevin Joiner, Vincenzo Carrasco, Jeremy Richmond, and Jason Richmond. $7 adults, $6 faculty/staff, $5 seniors, $4 students.

Hocus Pocus (1993)
Accidentally brought back to life in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night, three witches, known as the Sanderson sisters, attempt to steal the life essence from the town’s children so they can have eternal life. Will they be thwarted by some meddling kids, aided by a boy who was changed into a cat centuries ago by our same witchy trio? $1.

Hesburgh Library Fall Break Building Hours
During fall break (October 20–26), Hesburgh Library will be open Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Regular hours will resume Sunday, October 27. More than 3,000 alumni will be attending Reunion 2025 from Thursday, May 29, through Sunday, June 1. The Alumni Association is looking to partner with campus departments that are interested in engaging with alumni while they are back on campus. GIS Day: Call for Lightning Talk Proposals
GIS Day at Notre Dame is a symposium on Wednesday, November 20, that combines workshops, presentations, and more to demonstrate the power of geospatial technologies. · How to Write in a Book
This workshop illustrates and demonstrates a technique for writing in books for the purposes of “active reading.” Through an active reading process—writing in books—one can review, retain, and comprehend so much more even with a single pass over a text.

· Using the Distant Reader
This workshop is useful to anybody across campus who needs to read large volumes of materials, and will help you take control of your content. The Distant Reader, a locally written system, can take large volumes of URLs or files, create a corpus, convert it into plain text, complete natural language processing, and output sets of reports.

· How to Make a Book
This hands-on workshop will demonstrate how to bind books using any one of three different techniques: using a machine to do coil binding, using a machine to do adhesive binding, or making a book with a “slot and tab” method and absolutely no tools, only paper. Learn how printing and making books is a good thing, even in an era of all things digital.

Caregiver Support Group
If you are a faculty or staff member who is currently caring for an aging parent, a spouse or relative, or a child with special needs, please consider joining the Caregivers Support Group, which meets monthly from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Room 301, Coleman-Morse Center. Fall semester meetings will be held October 23, November 20, and December 18.
The United Way Campaign Is Underway
Fifteen percent of all United Way campaign dollars raised in St. Joseph County comes from Notre Dame’s annual giving campaign. United Way dollars go to local nonprofits with programs intended to move people out of poverty. A stronger St. Joseph County means a stronger University! The workplace campaign has started and runs through Friday, December 6.
Winter Clothing Drive
All winter clothes and gear in good condition are welcome to help graduate students prepare for the upcoming winter season. Drop-off locations: Bond Hall, LaFortune Student Center, Jenkins Nanovic Halls, and the graduate lounge of Duncan Student Center.
