Art and Design (BFA/BA Honors) Thesis Exhibition
This annual exhibition consists of the culminating thesis projects created by the students graduating with a BFA or B.A. honors degree from the Department of Art, Art History and Design. The show will run through May 15.

Michiana Jewish Film Festival

“The Automat” (2021)
This documentary recounts the lost history of the iconic restaurant chain Horn & Hardart, which served affordable-priced quality food to millions of New Yorkers and Philadelphians for more than a century. Director Lisa Hurwitz is scheduled to appear via Zoom after the in-person screening. Fac/Staff: $6. Students: $4.

“Persian Lessons” (2020)
A young Jewish Belgian man is arrested in 1942 by the SS and sent to a concentration camp in Germany where he avoids execution by telling the guards that he is Iranian. Subsequently, he is tasked with teaching the officer in charge of the camp’s kitchen how to speak a language he doesn’t know. One false move could expose the truth. Fac/Staff: $6. Students: $4.

“Wet Dog” (2021)
A Jewish Iranian teen, eager to fit in, joins a gang of Muslim miscreants. When his new friends decide to raid his parents’ jewelry store, he decides to embrace his heritage instead of hiding it. The film “Wet Dog” raises questions of cultural diversity, religious identity and how they intersect with friendship. Fac/Staff: $6. Students: $4.

“A Tree of Life” (2021)
“A Tree of Life” creates a deeply personal portrait of the survivors, victims and victims’ family members of the Pittsburgh Synagogue attack and brings into sharp focus the hate-based crisis that threatens our collective safety and democracy. Fac/Staff: $6. Students: $4.

Merrimans’ Playhouse @ the Snite Museum: Merrimans’ Playhouse Players

ND Learning | Kaneb Center Summer Reading Groups
The Kaneb Center purchases books on teaching and learning in higher education for small, informal reading groups. This program is available to Notre Dame instructors including faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Sign up by the Friday, May 20, deadline as an individual or as a group and the Kaneb Center will purchase and distribute the books. Review the flyer.
Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition Volunteers Needed
The 49th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition is seeking volunteers to help during the weekend of Friday through Sunday, May 20-22, at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center and O’Neill Hall of Music. The Compton Family Ice Arena has Adult Draft Hockey League up and running again! Join the 21+ adult hockey league, get drafted by a captain and play a session of fun hockey. It’s a great workout, plus there are B and C league teams available. $160.

Interdisciplinary Colloquium: “The Toumba Building at Lefkandi, Preliminary Results of a New Architectural Analysis”
This colloquium is presented by the School of Architecture and College of Engineering, in partnership with New Mexico State University and the University of Illinois. A team of architectural historians, civil engineers and aerospace engineers has reassessed the structural feasibility of Coulton’s peripteral reconstruction.

Safety, Parking and Traffic
Construction Begins May 9 on the Hesburgh Library’s Holtz Family Grand Reading Room
Preparation and active construction will begin in the southwest section of the first and second floors: Furniture will be removed; barrier walls will be erected and will remain in place through July 2023; select user seats and Seminar Room 201C will remain accessible in the second-floor southwest corner. Library Lot Permanently Closing
Library Lot will permanently close as of Monday, May 16, so the site can be prepared for a construction project. Please find alternate parking in any of the faculty/staff lots. There is no direct link from Canvas to the registrar. Instructors can either download grades from Canvas and upload into the registrar’s system or enter letter grades directly.
