Meet Your Museum Tour
These drop-in tours will introduce you to your new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art! Join a student gallery teacher to explore the architecture of the building through some of its most unique spaces, revisit familiar favorites from the collection and discover new works of art in view. Fall Exhibit Ending: “Making and Unmaking Emancipation in Cuba and the United States”
This exhibit explores the fraught, circuitous and unfinished course of emancipation over the 19th century in Cuba and the United States. People — enslaved individuals and outside observers, survivors and resistors and activists and conspirators — made and unmade emancipation, a process that remains unfinished and unrealized. Closes Friday, Dec. 15.

Artful Storytime
Join the first Artful Storytime program in the new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. Walk in a winter wonderland this month and join in for some frozen fun! Artful Storytime is a partnership with the St. Joseph County Public Library and is designed to help children develop their visual and verbal literacy skills. Each Artful Storytime include stories, songs, artwork explorations, artmaking and more. This program is best for families with children aged 4 to 6.

Call for Nominations: External Partnership Sustainability Award
University Procurement Services and the Office of Sustainability announce the new and improved 2024 External Partnership Sustainability Awards. The award program is being shifted to more fully recognize the holistic nature of our sustainability work and includes the following categories: 1) Small Business and Diverse Suppliers, 2) Food Sourcing, 3) Human Rights/Social Compliance, 4) Resilience and Climate Impact Reduction, and 5) General Operations. Learn more about the award by visiting the Office of Sustainability’s website and nominate your favorite sustainable business! Criteria for vendor submissions are outlined online.


Closures, Limited Hours and Cancellations

Hesburgh Library Finals Hours
The library will be open 24/7 through 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15.

Hesburgh Library Winter Break Hours
Hesburgh Library will have limited hours during winter break. From Saturday, Dec. 16, through Saturday, Jan. 13, Hesburgh Library will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition, Hesburgh Library will be closed Sunday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Sunday, Dec. 31, through Monday, Jan. 1. Find all branch and service desk hours at library.nd.edu/hours.


Deadlines or Registrations

Application Deadline: Spring 2024 Faculty Seminar with James Lang
Renowned author James Lang will work with a small group of Notre Dame faculty interested in reaching audiences beyond their disciplinary peers. The seminar, titled “Writing Like a Teacher: Expanding the Audiences for Your Academic Research,” will meet one Thursday per month during the spring semester from 4 to 6:30 p.m. (light dinner included). There is no cost to attend, but space is limited.

Call for Naughton REU Faculty Project Hosts
The Naughton Fellowship program is soliciting faculty with research experience projects to host Irish undergraduate students who will come to Notre Dame for 10 weeks in summer 2024. There is no cost to the faculty mentors to host those Irish students under this fellowship program, as the expenses and stipends are covered by the Naughton Fellowship.
Online applications close Friday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m.

Start of the Semester Seminar: “Teaching Well with Canvas”
Prepare for the new semester with sessions covering everything from basic Canvas setup to deeper considerations of using artificial intelligence well in your teaching. This a la carte workshop series allows instructors the flexibility of choosing which sessions they’d like to attend, with a casual atmosphere and food provided. Toys for Tots Drive
The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Notre Dame Veterans Association, in collaboration with South Bend’s 4th Marine Logistics Group, proudly bring Toys for Tots to campus. This program ensures that children whose parents may struggle to afford gifts for Christmas, experience the joy of the season. To participate, donate new, unwrapped gifts at any of the eight Toys for Tots donation boxes around campus until Friday, Dec. 15. Find these boxes at the Main Building, McKenna Hall, Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore, Hammes Bookstore (Eddy Street), Eck Visitors Center, Early Childhood Development Center and Pasquerilla Center. Safety, Parking and Traffic

PEV Reminder
Effective Sunday, Dec. 17, the operation, storage and charging of personal electric vehicles (PEVs) such as e-bicycles, e-scooters, e-skateboards, e-hoverboards and go-karts, including the batteries for these vehicles, will no longer be allowed on University property. More information can be found here.

Campus Access
The East Gate will close at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, and remain closed until Sunday, Dec. 31, when it will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Starting Monday, Jan. 1, the East Gate will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drivers with the new enhanced hang tags will be able to access the inner campus through the East Gate when the gate arm is down and the gatehouse is unattended. The inner campus will be accessible through the Main Gate 24 hours a day through the Christmas break.

Building Safety and Energy Conservation
Before you leave campus for the holidays, please:
• Close and lock all windows. If windows will not secure, please contact maintenance through the AiM work order system or at 574-631-8888 between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
• Make sure the heating units in your work space are on, with the fan setting in the “on” position.
• Defrost freezers and empty and unplug refrigerators. Leave refrigerator doors open.
• Turn off your computer.
• Turn off all copiers and printers.
• Unplug all Christmas lights.
• Turn off all other lights.
Please do not change or adjust your thermostat, as it is regulated campus-wide by utilities and maintenance personnel.
If you are on campus during break and notice a water leak or other facility-related issue, please contact the Work Control Center at 574-631-8888 or Utilities at 574-631-6594. To report an issue that occurs after hours, or to report emergencies anytime, please contact the Notre Dame Police Department at 574-631-5555.

The University is introducing a new process for storing collaborative data that may affect your shared files and folders. Learn more about what you can do to maintain access to collaborative work not stored in a shared drive.
