Theater: As You Like It (Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival 2024)

The rules of romance are upended in As You Like It, a gloriously entertaining romantic comedy that gleefully interrogates notions of gender, politics, and love. As You Like It is brought to life by the NDSF Professional Company and is directed by Sara Holdren, a multitalented theatrical director who’s also a regular critic for New York Magazine. Tickets: $10–$75.

Notre Dame Band’s First 2024 Marchout
The University of Notre Dame Band will kick off its 179th year with a marchout around the Notre Dame campus. Beginning outside the Ricci Band Rehearsal Hall, the band plans to march past several landmarks including the Hesburgh Library, Clarke Memorial Fountain, and Grace Hall. The marchout will conclude at the Ricci Family Fields. One of the traditional campus events ringing in the beginning of a new school year, the marchout will feature both veteran band members and students auditioning for a spot in the 2024 Band of the Fighting Irish.

Closures, Limited Hours, and Cancellations

Hesburgh Library Circle and Entrances Open
The Hesburgh Library Circle and east and south entrances are now open. The accessible parking spaces in the Library Circle are also available. The campus shuttle also resumed its regular drop-off/pickup location. The Hesburgh Library greatly appreciates your patience and understanding during this renovation project.


Deadlines or Registrations

Registration Closes This Week for Inauguration Build 2024
From Monday, September 16, through Friday, September 20, nearly 1,000 University faculty and staff volunteers will help Habitat for Humanity construct five affordable homes for local families as part of Inauguration Build 2024. Five homes, designed by ND architecture students, will be constructed on South Bend’s Near Northwest Side. The volunteer registration form is open through Wednesday, August 21.

Aquinas at 800: “Ad multos annos” Conference
This conference celebrates the 800th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Aquinas, exploring the ongoing importance of his thought to contemporary cultural, philosophical, and theological discussions. The conference gathers many of the most accomplished contemporary scholars of Aquinas’s thought from throughout the world, featuring more than 150 speakers. Free for ND/SMC/HCC faculty, staff, spouses, and students. $140 for South Bend community members and independent scholars. Register by the September 4 deadline.

Faculty Semester Start-Up Mini-Conference
Prepare for the new semester with conversations that will inspire your teaching. Sessions will focus on the current state of artificial intelligence in teaching, as well as academic integrity and tactics to increase student engagement. This a la carte workshop series allows instructors the flexibility of choosing which sessions they’d like to attend, with a casual atmosphere and food provided. Register by Monday, August 19. Free.

Drone Research Study: Invitation to Participate
This Department of Computer Science and Engineering study is open to ND students, staff, and faculty between the ages of 18 and 65. It involves commuting to the Tri Valley RC Club in South Bend, recording using an eye tracker and respiration belt while observing and communicating a drone’s behavior, and participating in a short interview. Participants will receive a $50 Amazon gift card for their participation after the experiment (in addition to mileage reimbursement). Participation should take up to one hour. Review the attachment to reserve an appointment.

As the University prepares to welcome students back to campus this week, please be aware of these temporary changes to parking lots (review attachment), especially the Bookstore North Lot and the Fischer Faculty/Staff Lot, beginning Tuesday, August 20.
