The University of Notre Dame has been named a 2022 Great College to Work For by the Great Colleges to Work For program.
The results, published in The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of more than 200 colleges and universities. Notre Dame is one of fewer than 70 to achieve this recognition for specific best practices and policies.
Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with Notre Dame included among large universities with 10,000 or more students. The University won honors in eight categories this year: Compensation & Benefits, Confidence in Senior Leadership, Faculty Experience, Faculty & Staff Well-being, Job Satisfaction & Support, Mission & Pride, Professional Development, and Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness.
Notre Dame was also named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll for the ninth time, a status granted to only 42 colleges each year that are highlighted most across the recognition categories.
In the survey, one Notre Dame employee shared, “The sense of community is a bonus of working at Notre Dame. My supervisors and other leadership are great communicators, kind and accommodating to their employees’ needs. They also listen to our ideas and value our input.”
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback.
Vice President for Human Resources Heather Christophersen said of the honor, “I see the Notre Dame spirit alive in each and every person who works here — as we work together to be a force for good in our community and world. I am excited to celebrate this recognition of our commitment to each other as we continue to work to make Notre Dame the best place to work, learn and grow.”
