Director of Stadium Operations Silvio Mendez has put in almost 15 years of service to the University and to patrons of Notre Dame events. In his four years at his current role, he oversees the Notre Dame Stadium complex, encompassing the stadium, Duncan Student Center, Corbett Family Hall, and the O’Neill Hall of Music.
What do you like most about your job?
What I love most about my job is three parts. One would be teaming up with multiple departments, friends, and colleagues to make a major stadium event special for 77,000-plus people. This includes football gameday. Two, it’s about the Notre Dame experience and demonstrating why we’re Notre Dame. And three, it’s about setting the bar higher because we can do more than just the standard. We’re Notre Freaking Dame!
What makes you feel appreciated?
When I’m listened to and see that my idea or thought was taken seriously/tested.
What do you do?
Ensuring all visitors who enter the stadium complex enter the facility safe, have fun, and exit the facility safe. Also ensuring that all working staff are in a safe, friendly environment and treated with respect (regardless if they work for Stadium Operations).
What do you like most about working at Notre Dame?
I’m sure everyone says this, but it’s true. It’s the people. The people become family and friends, which makes work fun and less like work. Your mindset about what your job is becomes more fulfilling when you tell a colleague, “I’ll fight next to you. What can I do for you?” because we complement each other.
What is a fun fact about you outside of work?
I’m not active on any social media sites, and I enjoy trying not to lose in golf to my 6-year-old son.
