In honor of the inauguration of Notre Dame’s 18th president, Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C., and his focus on expanding the University’s engagement in South Bend and the region, Notre Dame will partner with Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County for Inauguration Build 2024, September 16–20. That week, the University will field a team of about 1,000 faculty and staff volunteers to help construct five affordable homes on South Bend’s Near Northwest Side. Students of the Notre Dame School of Architecture  designed all five houses and will see their work come to fruition, and  the student chapter of Habitat for Humanity will take the lead on organizing student participation for the project.

Will you consider volunteering? You would work one four-hour shift (morning or afternoon) on one day. There will be opportunities for construction and hospitality work.

In mid-August, you will receive an email with volunteer information. If you are interested in participating, fill out the form, selecting the preferred shifts you are available and the type of work—construction or hospitality—you are able to do. While volunteers will only work one shift on one day, please choose all the time slots that you’re available so Inauguration Build organizers are able to fill all of the shifts.

The volunteer spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Employees should obtain supervisor approval to volunteer before signing up. Once the roster is filled, participants will be notified and may accept or decline the opportunity.

More information will be available in mid-August. If you have questions in the meantime, please email Public Affairs Associate Kelly Demski at kdemski@nd.edu.
