The Finance Division raised money throughout the fall for Veterans Day and donated the majority of it — $2,800 — to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana to cover the costs of sending two South Bend area veterans and their caregivers to Washington, D.C., in April to visit their war memorials. The Finance Division also arranged for one of the veterans who will be on the flight, Rick Ganser, to be honored on the ice at the Feb. 17 ND hockey game while several of the division employees attended (pictured above). Ganser served two tours in Vietnam while in the Marines.

The Finance Division has rallied around this fundraiser and wrote cards to all 87 vets who will be on the flight in April.

"Veterans are often reserved and quiet about their military service, especially those who served in wars over 50 years ago. This is why, at Notre Dame, we believe in the profound importance of seeking out veterans, gathering their stories, and sharing the history and sacrifices of our unsung heroes. God, Country, Notre Dame," Jonathan C. Anderstrom, insurance and financial risk assistant manager, said.
