According to the United Way of St. Joseph County, four in 10 families struggle to meet basic needs. This year is even more challenging as many in the South Bend community face financial devastation and health challenges due to COVID-19.

Each year, Notre Dame faculty and staff donate to the United Way to help local families in need get on their feet. In fact, Notre Dame employees donate more to the agency than any workforce in the county.

Just last year, donations from faculty and staff provided housing and shelter to 1,337 people, supported crisis intervention services to 2,066, helped 624 people obtain or maintain employment, funded academic improvement services for 345 students in grades 4-12, and ensured access to high-quality early-learning programs for 209 children. In addition, nearly $12,000 was directed to the University’s Compassion Fund to assist fellow Notre Dame employees in times of need.

The 2020 theme for United Way of St. Joseph County is, “United We Lift up Our Communities” with a call to “Join the Fight.”  Click here to make a payroll pledge or one time donation.
