The three Presidential Awards recognize staff members for their significant contributions to the betterment of the University and whose actions exemplify Notre Dame’s Core Values: Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Leadership in Excellence and Leadership in Mission. Any Notre Dame employee can nominate a staff member for an award. A selection committee reviews the nominations and presents recommendations to the Executive Vice President and the Associate Vice President for Human Resources for final approval. There are five recipients of the award for 2019.
THE PRESIDENTIAL VALUES AWARD
This award recognizes staff members whose performance reflects the University’s core values.
Silvio oversaw the opening of the Campus Crossroads Project and now manages day-to-day operations of the Notre Dame Stadium complex, which includes Duncan Student Center, Corbett Family Hall and O’Neill Hall. Silvio carries out his job in a welcoming and understanding manner, holds himself to a very high level of integrity and is a leader in his support the University’s mission.
University Writing Program
Terri's colleagues say she has made the University Writing Program more efficient and productive in her position as program coordinator. Her job is complex and demanding, but Terri doesn’t show it. Her team calls her “a lovely and kind human being who makes others glad to be in the same department.” Terri makes her colleagues know they matter to her personally. She is committed to excellence, is dedicated to the University’s core values and serves as a role model to those around her.
THE PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP AWARD
This designation celebrates staff supervisors and exempt or non-exempt staff for outstanding servant leadership.
University Counseling Center
Susan has served in the University Counseling Center in various roles for nearly 38 years. During her tenure, there has been an increasing demand for student mental health services, as is the case at colleges across the country. Susan embraces the challenge as an opportunity to find inventive ways to meet the demand and to improve service to students. It’s working. Students consistently give the center high satisfaction ratings. Susan’s colleagues sing her praises, saying she has a “backbone of iron and a heart of gold.”
THE PRESIDENTIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award recognizes breakthrough initiatives, extraordinary innovations and significant contributions to the University’s long-term success.
Tom A. Rogers
Tom Rogers is the procurement specialist for facilities, landscape, maintenance, repairs and operations, furniture, theater, athletics and foods services. In his 37 years with the University, Tom has seen a lot of changes, but considers each an opportunity rather than an obstacle. Nominators refer to Tom as honest and responsible. He has cultivated and nurtured positive, long-lasting business relationships between the University and its suppliers and saved the University tens of millions of dollars.
Director of Admissions
Bob is a champion of the Notre Dame mission. In his position as director of admissions, he conveys the University as the unique and significant college opportunity — where one finds their greater sense of self and purpose. Bob has visited more than 1,000 high schools and given more than 2,500 presentations to groups of students and parents. He has managed 300,000 freshman application decisions and enrolled 44,000 students, while mentoring more than 100 young alumni whose first professional job was with the Office of Admissions.
